Great well, Deir el-Medina, Egypt
Great well, 50m deep, unsuccessfully dug to find a fresh water source, at Deir el-Medina, site of the workers village for artisans building the tombs in the Valley of the Kings, 18th - 20th dynasties, New Kingdom, at the Theban Necropolis, Thebes, Luxor, Egypt. The village contained 68 houses along a central road, and the Temple of Hathor was added in the Ptolemaic era. The site was excavated by Ernesto Schiaparelli 1905-9 and Bernard Bruyere 1922-51.
