Green stone, Temple 1, Hattusa, Anatolia, Turkey
Green Stone, a monumental block of nephrite in the Great Temple or Temple 1, whose purpose is unknown, in the Lower City, Hattusa archaeological site, near Bogazkale, Corum, Anatolia, Turkey. Temple 1 was a royal temple built c. 1600 BC on a raised platform, possibly dedicated to the sun goddess and storm god. Hattusa was the capital of the Hittite empire, built in the late Bronze Age from c. 1650 BC, on an older Chalcolithic settlement founded 6th millennium BC.
