Hawa Mahal or Palace of Winds, rear facade, in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. The Rajput style palace was built in red and pink sandstone in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh, grandson of Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, founder of Jaipur, and designed by Lal Chand Ustad. It adjoins the City Palace and its rear facade resembles a beehive with 953 small windows or jharokhas decorated with intricate latticework. The city of Jaipur was founded in 1727 by Jai Singh II, the Raja of Amer, and planned and designed by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan and the 10th most populous city in India. Jaipur is listed as the Pink City of India UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
