Entrance doorway to House 7, kept small and low for insulation and privacy, with fireplace, dresser and box beds within, and modern timber ceiling, at Skara Brae, a Neolithic village occupied 3180-2500 BC consisting of 9 stone houses and a workshop, linked by passages, at Skaill beach on the Bay of Skaill, on Mainland, Orkney, Scotland. House 7 is the best preserved of the houses and is protected by a new turf roof to ensure stable conditions inside. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
