House of the Arpocrate, Solunto, Sicily, Italy
Column and ruins of the House of the Arpocrate, situated over 2 levels, in the Phoenician city of Solunto, in Sicily, Italy. Its name came from a small group of bronze statues discovered here. It is a large house and boasts an impressive mosaic floor, possibly from the 1st century BC. The Phoenician village of Solunto was expanded by the Greeks after 396 BC and again by the Romans after 254 BC. It was abandoned soon after and rediscovered by archaeologists in the 16th century.
