Human bones, Maeva, Huahine, Society Islands
Bones of victims of human sacrifices, at a marae, a ceremonial and religious site, close to the archaeological site at Maeva, possibly the 3rd royal marae where human sacrifices took place, on Huahine-Nui on the island of Huahine, in the Leeward Islands, part of the Society Islands, in French Polynesia. The skulls found here have oval holes in them, and are approximately 300 years old. Maeva is thought to be an abandoned royal settlement, with many megalithic structures including marae, houses, agricultural structures, stone fish traps and fortification walls.
