View of Marseilles from the Chateau d'If, a fortress built 1524-31 and used as a prison 1540-1914, now a visitor attraction, on the Ile d'If off the coast of Marseilles, Bouches-du-Rhone, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France. The fortress was built under Francois I to defend the coast and features a 3 storey building with towers and gun embrasures, with a lighthouse added 1863. It is listed as a historic monument.
