Ismail Kadare, Monument to Famous Gjirokastriotes
Ismail Kadare, born 1936, writer and poet, from the Monument to Famous Gjirokastriotes, a new monument built by the municipality to celebrate 3 honorary citizens: Eqerem Cabej, 1908-80, historian, linguist and educator, Ismael Kadare and Musine Kokalari, 1917-83, writer and co-founder of the Albanian Social Democratic Party, 1943, Gjirokastra, Albania. Gjirokastra was settled by the Greek Chaonians, the Romans and Byzantines before becoming an Ottoman city in 1417. Its old town was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005.
