The Sultan Ahmed Mosque, commissioned by Sultan Ahmed I, dominates the Istanbul skyline with its cascading domes and six minarets. Built near the Hagia Sophia, it combines Byzantine style with Islamic architecture. The court, surrounded by a continuous vaulted arcade (revak), is about as large as the mosque itself.
