Judgement of Solomon, Doge's Palace, Venice, Italy
Sculptural group of the Judgement of Solomon, by Bartolomeo Bon, c.1421-64, on the corner of the Doge's Palace or Palazzo Ducale, Venice, Italy. The corner sculptures of the palace are on the theme of justice - in this scene, Solomon must judge the true mother of a child. This was the residence of the Doge of Venice, the supreme authority of the former Republic of Venice, until the Napoleonic occupation in 1797, and is now a museum. The city of Venice is an archipelago of 117 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges, in the Venetian Lagoon. The historical centre of Venice is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
