Khachkars Noratus cemetery, Gegharkunik, Armenia
Khachkars in the Noratus cemetery, a medieval graveyard founded 10th century with nearly 900 khachkars or cross-stones, and many carved tombstones, at Noratus, Gegharkunik, Armenia. Many khachkars date from the 10th century and others from 16th and 17th centuries. They were believed to protect the soul of the deceased. Walking tours of the cemetery are given to visitors.
