King's Sitting Room, Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte

King's Sitting Room, a state room in the Royal Apartments which became the study of Marshal de Villars after 1705, at the Chateau de Vaux-le-Vicomte, designed by Louis Le Vau, 1612-70, and built 1658-61 for marquis Nicolas Fouquet, in Maincy, Seine-et-Marne, France. The cabinet is 17th century, made from ebony with pewter and ivory marquetry with pierres paysageres, stone cut to resemble landscapes. The chateau is built in Baroque style, with decoration by Charles Le Brun, 1619-90, and grounds designed by landscape architect Andre le Notre, 1613-1700.
