La Montee Hoche, a steep stepped street where Napoleon rode on horseback on 15th April 1805 on his way to the Fort Saint-Jean, in the Quartier de la Croix-Rousse in Lyon, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France. It is named after Lazare Hoche, 1768-97, a general in the French Revolution. The centre of Lyon is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
