Laich Hall, Edinburgh Castle, Scotland

Laich Hall, with wood panelling, heraldic wall paintings and monumental fireplace, 15th century, with coat of arms of James VI of Scotland and I of England and Ireland (Scottish unicorn and English lion), in Edinburgh Castle, Scotland. This room was remodeled as a dining hall for James VIn's golden jubilee in 1617, where he held a grand banquet. The castle was begun in the 11th century under king Malcolm III and was the residence of the rulers of Scotland. It has also served as an arsenal, mint and prison, and is now a tourist attraction, museum and regimental headquarters and part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
