Levantine Synagogue, Venice, Italy
Levantine Synagogue, or Scola Levantina, built 1538-61 by Jews from the Levant, restored by Andrea Brustolon, 1662-1732, in the Jewish Ghetto or Ghetto Vecchio in Venice, Veneto, Italy. The Venetian Ghetto was instituted in 1516 by Doge Leonardo Loredan and Jewish segregation here ended in 1797. The historical centre of Venice is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
