Life of St Julian the Hospitaller stained glass
A wheelwright stands on a stool and turns his wheel, checking it runs smoothly, his adze at the ready. A cooper works with his hammer around a barrel. Section of wheelwrights and coopers, 1215-25, from the Life of St Julian the Hospitaller window in the chapel of St Julian in the ambulatory of Chartres Cathedral, Eure-et-Loir, France. Chartres cathedral was built 1194-1250 and is a fine example of Gothic architecture. Most of its windows date from 1205-40 although a few earlier 12th century examples are also intact.
