Life of St Julian the Hospitaller stained glass
Julian arrives home on horseback, his feet in stirrups and his sword at his side. The open door of his house is an ominous warning. Section of Julian arriving home, 1215-25, from the Life of St Julian the Hospitaller window in the chapel of St Julian in the ambulatory of Chartres Cathedral, Eure-et-Loir, France. Chartres cathedral was built 1194-1250 and is a fine example of Gothic architecture. Most of its windows date from 1205-40 although a few earlier 12th century examples are also intact.
