Lighthouse, 1863, on the Ile d'If off the coast of Marseilles, Bouches-du-Rhone, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France. The island holds the Chateau d'If, a fortress built 1524-31 and used as a prison 1540-1914, now a visitor attraction. It was built under Francois I to defend the coast and features a 3 storey building with towers and gun embrasures. It is listed as a historic monument. Picture by Manuel Cohen
