Lion Gate, Hittite, 14th century BC, an entrance in the city wall of the Upper City, aerial view, Hattusa archaeological site, near Bogazkale, Corum, Anatolia, Turkey. Lion guardian sculptures flank the gate posts, which would have been hung with heavy wooden doors covered in bronze. Hattusa was the capital of the Hittite empire, built in the late Bronze Age from c. 1650 BC, on an older Chalcolithic settlement founded 6th millennium BC.
