Los Danzantes, stone relief carvings of dancing men, 500 - 100 BC, in the Gallery of the Dancers beside the Building of the Dancers on the Main Plaza, at Monte Alban, ancient Zapotec capital founded 6th century BC, Oaxaca, Mexico. The figures are depicted in Olmec style and may be rulers of nearby villages who were captured and sacrificed in Monte Alban. Their blood (collected by castration) may have been offered to the gods in a fertility ritual. The site is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
