Lower City, aerial view, Hattusa archaeological site, near Bogazkale, Corum, Anatolia, Turkey. The Lower City has been largely excavated, Hittite ruins include a large platform housing Temple 1, built 14th - 13th century BC, and mud brick houses for priests, civil servants, merchants and artisans. It also contains older Hattian structures from 3rd - 2nd millennium BC. Hattusa was the capital of the Hittite empire, built in the late Bronze Age from c. 1650 BC, on an older Chalcolithic settlement founded 6th millennium BC.
