Main Plaza, Monte Alban, Oaxaca, Mexico
East side of Main Plaza, with altar of Building P in the centre, Palace on the right, built from 350 AD for noblemen and priests, and behind, the Jewelled Platform, or Plataforma Enjoyada, or Building A, a pyramid temple built c. 500 AD attached to the North Platform, at Monte Alban, ancient Zapotec capital founded 6th century BC, Oaxaca, Mexico. The huge central plaza could hold the whole population of the city and held the main civic and ceremonial sites. The site is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
