Memmius Monument, 1st century AD, Domitian Square, Ephesus, Izmir, Turkey. The monument was constructed during the reign of Augustus by Memmius, the grandson of dictator Sulla. Here we see a sculpted figure on the side of the monument. Ephesus was an ancient Greek city founded in the 10th century BC, and later a major Roman city, on the Ionian coast near present day Selcuk.
