The Palacio Canton was designed by Italian architect Enrico Deserti, directed by Manuel G. Canton Ramos, as the residence of General Francisco Canton, ex-governor of Yucatan. It was the first building in Merida to use elements such as ironwork and marble and is now a museum housing an important collection of Pre-Colombian Mayan objects.
