Benedictine Monastery of San Nicolo l'Arena, founded 1558, rebuilt 1702-1866, on Piazza Dante, in Catania, Sicily, Italy. The monastery is now part of the University of Catania. Catania was founded by the Greeks in the 8th century BC and was rebuilt in the 12th century after an earthquake, then again after an earthquake in 1693. Much of the Old Town features late Baroque architecture and the city is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
