Monument to the Victory at Verdun, sculpted by Jean Boucher, 1870-1939, designed by Leon Chesnay and inaugurated by French President Gaston Doumergue in 1929, Verdun, Meuse, Lorraine, France. The monument is built in a breach of the medieval walls, with a long staircase leading to a crypt and the tower topped by a statue of Charlemagne.
