Sea god Triton, Roman mosaic in stone and glass, early 3rd century AD, from the governor's palace at Zubanovac, Salona, now Solin, in the Archaeological Museum, founded 1820, in Split, Croatia. Split was founded as a Greek colony in 3rd century BC, was the seat of Roman emperor Diocletian from 305 AD and was later ruled by Byzantines, Venetians and Dalmatians.
