Virgin and child with 4 angels, 3 Magi presenting gifts, and procession of 22 virgins, 6th century Byzantine mosaic, on the north lateral wall of the nave of the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, built early 6th century under king Theodoric the Great and rededicated to St Apollinaris in 856 AD, in Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Above the main mosaic are portraits of saints, prophets and evangelists, and above that, biblical miracles and parables. The church is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
