Death of the Virgin, 12th century Byzantine mosaic in the Western barrel vault of the nave of La Martorana, or Concattedrale Santa Maria della'Ammiraglio, a 12th century orthodox church which merged with the adjacent Benedictine convent in 1433, in Palermo, Sicily, Italy. The mosaic depicts the dead Virgin with mourners, and Christ delivering her soul to 2 angels waiting above. Palermo's Arab and Norman centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
