Armarium containing gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, detail from the Martyrdom of St Lawrence mosaic, c. 424 AD, in the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, built 425-450 AD in the late Antique Roman period in Byzantine style, a chapel or oratory beside the narthex of Santa Croce, in Ravenna, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. Commissioned as a mausoleum by empress Galla Placidia, daughter of Theodosius I, she actually died and was buried in Rome. The building is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
