Housed in the former Gare d'Orsay, built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900, by Victor Laloux, Lucien Magne and mile Benard, it was classified as Monuments Historiques in 1978 and was converted to a museum by Gae Aulenti in December 1986 (opening).
