Museo de las Casas Reales, Santo Domingo, Dominican

Great Hall of the Governors, in the Museo de las Casas Reales, or Museum of the Royal Houses, in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean. This room served as a throne room and reception room. It has a gilded wooden ceiling and is lined with portraits of the governors. The museum was opened in 1973 to celebrate the history and culture of the Spanish inhabitants of the colony, and is housed in a 16th century colonial palace originally serving as governor's office and Audiencia Real or Royal Court.
