Nave, Church of Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre, Dourdan, France

Nave of the Church of Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre, 12th century, with its rib-vaulted ceiling and Gothic arches, looking towards the Chapel of the Virgin, in Dourdan, Essonne, France. The church was begun in 1150 and was badly damaged in the Hundred Years War and Wars of Religion, but restored in the 17th century. It is dedicated to Saint Germain, bishop of Auxerre 418-448 AD. In 1648 Anne of Austria donated 4 columns which were incorporated into the Chapel of the Virgin, built 1689 and forming the chevet of the church, increasing its length to 50m.
