Nilometer, Temple of Sobek and Haroeris, Kom Ombo, Egypt
Nilometer, a deep well accessed by spiral steps, for measuring the flood level of the river Nile, built in the Roman period, at the Temple of Sobek and Haroeris, at Kom Ombo, Aswan Governate, Egypt. Kom Ombo is a double temple to both Sobek, crocodile god of fertility, and Haroeris, Horus the Elder, built 180-47 BC during the Ptolemaic dynasty, and altered in Roman times. Picture by Manuel Cohen
