Nymph from Allianoi, Izmir, Turkey
Statue of a nymph with a basin, 2nd century AD, from the Roman spa complex of Allianoi, at the Archaeological Museum of Bergama, Izmir, Turkey. The ruins at Allianoi were engulfed with the building of the Yortanli Dam across the Ilya river in 2010 when a huge reservoir was formed over this area. This statue became the poster girl for the unsuccessful campaign to protect Allianoi. Picture by Manuel Cohen
