Obelisk, Placa dels Herois, Puigcerda, Catalonia, Spain

Placa dels Herois or Plaza de Santa Maria, a town square with an obelisk inaugurated 1883 commemorating those who died defending the town from Carlist troops in 1837, 1873 and 1874, and behind, the Campanar de Santa Maria or bell tower, built 1737-76, for the 12th century Santa Maria Church, now destroyed, in Puigcerda, Cerdanya, Girona, Catalonia, Spain. Puigcerda sits on the border of Spain and France, adjoining Bourg-Madame on the French side. Picture by Manuel Cohen
