Odeon, Paphos Archaeological Park, Paphos, Cyprus

Odeon amphitheatre, used for musical concerts, built 2nd century AD, seating 1200, excavated 1970s, at Paphos Archaeological Park, or Kato Pafos Archaeological Park, Paphos, Cyprus. The Odeon consists of an auditorium, orchestra, 2 parodoi or corridors to the stage or scena, a proskenion and paved floor. It was connected to the Agora and may also have been used as a Bouleuterion by the city council. New Pafos was founded 4th century BC by king Nicocles and was the ancient capital of Cyprus from 2nd century BC. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
