Oseberg royal burial mound, Norway
Royal burial mound at Oseberg, excavated in 1904 and restored in 1947, in the Slagen valley, near Tonsberg, Vestfold, Norway. Excavations revealed the grave, c. 834, of 2 wealthy women, 1 of whom is thought to be queen Alvhild, along with luxurious furniture, tools, a cart, decorative textiles and the Oseberg Ship or Osebergskipet, a 9th century karve type clinker built ship in oak, now housed in the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo.
