Chillon Castle, oil painting on canvas, 1874, by Gustave Courbet, 1819-77, in the Louvre-Lens, an art museum in Lens, Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France, France. Chillon Castle or Chateau de Chillon is a medieval island castle on Lake Geneva in Switzerland. It is listed as a historic monument. Courbet was exiled to Switzerland after the fall of the Commune after the Franco-Prussian war. The museum holds works on loan from the Musee du Louvre in Paris. Picture by Manuel Cohen
