Rochefort's Escape, oil painting on canvas, c. 1881, by Edouard Manet, 1832-83, in the Louvre-Lens, an art museum in Lens, Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France, France. The painting depicts the escape in 1874 of journalist Henri Rochefort, 1831-1913, by boat, from the penal colony of New Caledonia, where he had been sent after the fall of the Paris Commune.
