Aeneas carrying his father Anchises, oil painting on canvas, by Carle van Loo, 1705-65, in the Louvre-Lens, an art museum in Lens, Pas-de-Calais, Hauts-de-France, France. The painting depicts a scene from the Aeneid by Virgil, when Aeneas saves his father and son Ascanius from the burning city of Troy. On the left is his wife Creusa, who stays in the city, giving Aeneas the Penates statuettes. The museum holds works on loan from the Musee du Louvre in Paris. Picture by Manuel Cohen
