Journey of Alexandre Dumas (father) from Paris to Cadiz, Spain, detail, oil painting on canvas, 1855, by Eugene Giraud, 1806-88, in the Musee Alexandre-Dumas, opened in 1905 in his home town of Villers-Cotterets, Aisle, Picardie, Hauts-de-France, France. Dumas travelled to Spain with Eugene Giraud, Louis Boulanger, Adolphe Desbarolles and Alexandre Dumas (son), seen here left-right. The museum is now housed in a 19th century mansion, and houses exhibits on Alexandre Dumas (the son), 1824-95, author and playwright, his father Alexandre Dumas, 1802-70, novelist and playwright, and his grandfather, General Alexandre Dumas or Thomas-Alexandre Dumas Davy de la Paillerteria, 1762-1806, a Creole general from Saint-Domingue.
