Allegory of water, with goddess Amphitrite with putti and lake animals, detail, oil painting on wood, early 17th century, by Jan Brueghel the Elder, 1568-1625, and Hendrick van Balen, 1575-1632, in the Musee des Beaux Arts de Nice, Nice, Provence, France. Brueghel was commissioned 1608-21 by Federico Borromeo to make 4 paintings of the history of the Allegories of the Four Elements.
