Siege of Alesia, painting, by Henri-Paul Motte, 1846-1922, in the Musee de Semur-en-Auxois, founded 1836 and housed in a 17th century Jacobin convent in Semur-en-Auxois, Cote-d'Or, Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, France. The battle of Alesia took place in 52 BC during the Gallic Wars, between victorious Romans under Julius Caesar and Gallic tribes under Vercingetorix, in modern-day Alise-Sainte-Reine.
