The Danaids, daughters of Danaus in Greek mythology, who murdered their husbands on their wedding night, oil painting on canvas, 1655, by Valerio Castello, 1624-59, in the Salotto Dorato, or Gilded Room, with ceiling fresoes by Luca Cambiaso, 1527-85, in the Palazzo Gio Battista Spinola, or Palazzo Andrea e Gio Batta Spinola, built 1563, designed by Bernardino Cantone, at 6 Via Garibaldi, in the Le Strade Nuove in Genoa, Liguria, Italy. The palace now houses the Circolo Artistico Tunnel, a private members club. The Strade Nuove or New Streets area, housing many palaces or Palazzi dei Rolli, is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
