Palacio Consistorial, originally built 1502-04 as the mayor's residence, and remodelled in the 19th century in Neoclassical style, with the clock tower added in 1913, in Columbus Park, Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, in the Caribbean. On the right is a bust of Pope John Paul II, commemorating his first visit to the Americas in 1979, on the Plaza de Colon outside the cathedral.
