Howard Carter (right) with Lord Carnarvon at the entrance to the internal chamber of the Tomb of Tutakhamun in 1923, photograph, at the House of Howard Carter, 1874-1939, British archaeologist and Egyptologist, in the Theban necropolis, Thebes, Luxor, Egypt. Carter worked for Lord Carvarvon from 1907 excavating tombs in the Valley of the Kings, and discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun. The house is now a museum and includes a replica of the Tomb of Tutankhamun. Thebes is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Picture by Manuel Cohen
