Pompey's Pillar, or Pompey's Column, a Roman triumphal column erected 298-303 AD for emperor Diocletian, and 1 of 2 Roman sphinxes in pink granite, beside the ruins of the temple of Serapis, at the Serapeum of Alexandria, in Alexandria, Egypt. The granite corinthian column and capital once held a statue of Diocletian. (The misleading name Pompey's Column comes from a mistake in translation from its Greek inscription.)
