Pont d'Avignon or Pont Saint-Benezet, built 1234 on the river Rhone with 22 arches, although only 4 arches and a gatehouse remain, Avignon, Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur, France. The Chapel of St Nicholas was built on the bridge in the 12th century. Behind is the Palais des Papes or Palace of the Popes, a medieval International Gothic palace and fortress, housing the Avignon papacy in the 14th century.
