Portal, Heddal Stave Church, Telemark, Norway
Entrance portal with carved interlaced vines and figures either side of the door, wood, at Heddal Stave Church or Heddal stavkirke, a medieval wooden long church built c. 1200, at Notodden, Telemark, Norway. Although only the west entrance is now used, there were originally 4 doors for men, women, the clergy and processions. The church has a triple nave, seats 180 people and is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. Picture by Manuel Cohen
